Local Connections

As the cost-of-living hits everyone and the airport disruption and flight cancellations leave many people disappointed, we’ve been exploring ways of adding value to the Steam & Stars experience. West Somerset has so much to offer and we felt we should see if we can find new things for our guests to enjoy. This has led us to make new connections with some lovely local people and we’ve discovered lots of other activities and eateries in the area to share with our guests. We only recommend places we know, trust and feel are good value. Here are a couple we thought we would share with you…

The Kitchen at Nether Stowey – We called in here for lunch – just to check the quality of their offerings. Oh my! We were not disappointed. Bee had the all day vegetarian hash breakfast and took at least two thirds of it home in two recyclable foil containers (we like that!) and Trevor had a full roast dinner that was huge, perfectly cooked and totally scrumptious. We brought home the leftovers and feasted the following day.

Sitwell’s Supper Club – Well…how did we not know that William Sitwell of MasterChef fame and The Telegraph food writer lives less that five miles away? William runs a ‘Supper Club’ where the exclusive events see celebrated chefs cooking fabulous food. William boasts the longest table in Somerset. He also has lunch clubs. We’ve not yet had the opportunity to try these but plan to very soon, though his credentials are not in doubt. Why not think of a special treat evening and book a stay at Steam & Stars to correspond with a meal at Rooks Nest. William likes what we have to offer here too and promotes us as a great place to stay for his own dinner guests. We’ll happily drive guests to and from Rooks Nest so they can enjoy William’s wines to the full.
