An ideal base to explore the beautiful countryside by car, public transport, bicycle or on foot

THE LOCAL AREA

Located between The Quantocks and Exmoor Steam and Stars is an ideal base to explore the beautiful countryside by car, public transport, bicycle or on foot. A 5 minute drive takes you to the seaside and quiet fishing harbour of Watchet. Minehead, to the west, is a further 20 minutes away by car. Taunton is 30 minutes to the east. With glorious views over the Quantock hills our accommodation provides comfort and relaxation.

This is Coleridge and Wordsworth territory. Both poets used to walk over the Quantocks to Exmoor gathering inspiration from nature and the wonderful countryside and sea views. Coleridge’s cottage, now owned by the National Trust, is 9 miles away in Nether Stowey and well worth a visit. A 7ft statue of Coleridge’s Ancient Mariner stands on the ancient harbourside at Watchet.

A short walk through fields from Steam & Stars will take you to the neighbouring village of Williton where there is a Co-operative supermarket, a Spar, the Somerset Farmhouse butcher/delicatessen, an Indian restaurant, a fish and chip shop and a few other lovely shops, also a Lloyds bank which has as an ATM as does the Co-op.

If you can pull yourself away from the view of the trains and beautiful Quantock Hills there are plenty of other things to do in West Somerset!
