A Romantic Retreat

A Romantic Retreat

After all the groundwork was completed and Hazel and Willow had arrived, we set about weaving willow fencing and laying turf. We installed our stunning Hikki wood-fired hot tub on some reclaimed railway sleepers, and with great excitement we were ready to open for bookings!

Following lockdowns and working from home so many people were desperate to get away for a much-needed break. Bookings came in thick and fast, to our delight, and we welcomed our first guests on 14th June. To our delight we’ve already hosted two honeymoon couples and another couple who got engaged during their stay. We continued to develop ours and guests’ ideas over the next few months. We produced a comprehensive welcome pack that could be wiped clean (with infection control in mind).

In time for winter we opened a drying room and had four ‘how to’ videos made and put on our website to help guests get the most out of their stay. We invested in a Dutch oven, which is a cast iron cookpot, to further enhance the outdoor cooking facilities. We finally felt that we were equipped and ready to comfortably host guests throughout the winter months.

The feedback we have had has been heartening and so many guests report how much they have enjoyed cooking using the Dutch oven over an open fire while waiting for the hot tub to heat. We seem to be attracting a variety of lovely people, some who already have the fire-bug and many fire-virgins who have now developed the fire-bug. They say they have really appreciated our how-to videos, our welcome/induction lesson and our written instructions. Our main goal has been to give confidence to all our guests to enable their Steam & Stars experience to be as good as it can be. We’ve even had people barbecuing their breakfast in the rain under an umbrella! We love it!

Here are a few tasty Dutch oven recipes we’ve found that could be cooked over the campfire.
