Need an itinerary for your winter short stay

It is true that the winter months are quieter around here. The pace of life slows whilst we hunker down, rest and recharge for the busier months ahead. But don’t let that put you off booking a winter short stay to escape the crowds and get out and about exploring all that West Somerset has to offer – and all within easy reach of Steam and Stars Luxury Glamping.

Here are some of our favourite ideas:

🌄 Adventure Days Out

  • The Quantock Hills – Ancient woodland, red deer, sweeping moorland and Bristol Channel views. Perfect for winter walks or off‑road cycling.
  • Beaches All Year – Dog‑friendly and wide open. Try Watchet, Blue Anchor, Dunster, Minehead or Porlock. Kilve Beach is ideal for fossil hunting.

🏘️ Explore Local Towns

  • Watchet – Marina views, the Old Mineral Line walk, East Quay arts hub, exhibitions and cosy cafés.
    • Words in Watchet Festival: 20–22 Feb 2026
    • Earthly Spirits Exhibition: 31 Jan–4 May
  • Dunster – Medieval castle, watermill, independent shops and charming streets.
  • Minehead – Quiet winter beach walks, harbour pubs, St Michael’s Church, and the start of the South West Coast Path.

🚂 Heritage Steam Railway

  • West Somerset Railway – 2026 celebrates 50 years of preservation and the running of passenger trains. Featured in Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials on Netflix!
    • Opening weekend 28–29 March

🏞️ National Trust Gems

  • Fyne Court – A peaceful Quantock hideaway open all year.
  • Coleridge Cottage – Step into the poet’s world (opens Spring).
